It’s not surprising why many people, men and women alike, opt for a digital sport watch. It usually comes with other useful functions that other forms of wrist watches are short of. To name a few: GPS, accelerometer, pedometer, heart monitor, and many more. That’s why those who are into sports or have an active lifestyle go for sports watches.

But more than the additional features, it’s also designed to outlive most other types of watches. Its construction is strong enough to endure the rigors of sports and active lifestyle. It’s no wonder why it is popular among athletes, as well among those who want true value for their hard-earned money.

However, in case you own one, it doesn’t mean you have to disregard proper caring and maintenance. How you treat your timepiece will have an impact on how long it’s going to last.

Wearing it in saunas for some minutes, then lunging into the swimming pool is unsuitable for you timepiece. Abrupt changes in temperature, especially extreme ones, can get its plastic parts warped. Even the rubber fittings for it to resist shocks and water may get damaged.

Most sports watches’ straps and cases are fashioned from polyurethane or other hard plastic materials. For regular cleaning of such parts, a dry or damp cloth may be used. For cleaning stains like grease or other sticky substances, you may use a toothbrush dipped in soapy water. Refrain from using harsh solvents and chemicals for cleaning the graphic lcd. A damp cloth will rid the surface of dirt and stains.

After using it for swimming at the beach or exposing to hard water, make it a habit to rinse your wrist watch with water. This will help get rid of the salt and potential deposition of minerals. Also, just because it’s water-resistant doesn’t mean you can use it for all water activities. Check the leaflet carefully. Sometimes a water-resistant watch may be used for moderate swimming, but not automatically for diving.

Yes, sports watches may be able to significantly resist shocks better than other types of wristwatches. However, it’s best not to put that feature to some testing. Steer clear of intentionally dropping it to the floor, or banging it against a wall. You may damage the led backlight, or some of its other sensitive features. It may be able to withstand shocks associated with playing sports or leading an active lifestyle. But there are also limitations.

For replacing batteries or worn out parts, or for cleaning the interiors, it’s best to have a professional do it for you. Also, read the manual to see what other considerations your wristwatch necessitates. If you take good care of it, you will enjoy your timepiece for many years.
