Pocket Watch Part
How do I attach tiny watch parts and have it look good?
I have a homework assignment to construct a metaphorical sculpture. Not that its original, but I chose “time flies”. So I have about 800 near microscopic pocket watch parts that I bought on ebay to make into flies.
I had assumed I could solder them, but they are so tiny that now I’m not so sure. Does anyone have experience making things out of watch parts? Steampunk expertise, perhaps?
you mentioned glue. What brand is it?
I am currently working on a project using watch parts myself. I am using a magnifying light, tweezers, jewelery glue that is applied with a very thin wire tool. You can make one (or several, because they get gobs of glue on them, and you may not want to stop and clean, but just grab a new one and keep going.) Take a 4 inch piece of thin, stiff wire and grasp it about an inch down, with a pair of pliers. with a second pair of pliers bend the top inch into a loop to hold onto. Dip the other end into the jewelry glue to collect a tiny drop. Hold the watch piece in a pair of tweezers and apply the glue to it with the wire tool. be sure to place one of the loop wire tools into the opening of the glue tube to keep it from sealing up when you stop your work for the day. Then when you resume work, you can just pull it out and the glue should continue to flow. Keep some of the glue remover product handy for accidents. good luck.
