100LK Singer knitting machine carriage Jams?
Can anyone advise me: just bought Singer LK100 knitting machine and the carriage keeps jamming on me no matter how I cast on/or put yarnknitted a few rows-to see if it will pass over and it does not. I just bought it used, have knitted on Singer 120 and Big phil knitter, don’t know what to to, can anyone PLS advise. Many thanks for anyones help.

If you have experience on the SK-120, then you know that the machine has to be threaded correctly and the needle retainer bar (sponge bar) has to be still spongy to put the appropriate pressure on the needles.
First, make sure you follow the manual’s instructions on threading the machine. The LK-100 is threaded a bit differently from other knitting machines.
Second, bring all the needles to forward (D) position and look at them. Are they all straight and evenly spaced? Are all the latches in place? If one or more needles are bent or missing latches, that could be the problem.
Third, while the needles are in forward position, press down on the needle butts (the plastic knobs at the back end of the needles. They should go down with pressure and then spring right back up. If they don’t, you may need to replace the needle retaining bar. To locate it and see what it’s supposed to look like, see http://knittsings.com/knitting-machine-sponge-bar/ . If you have to replace it, you may be able to order one from a supplier; it should be the same size as the one for the LK-150, also a mid-gauge machine. Fourth, if nothing so far has pinpointed the problem, are you using the correct yarn at the correct stitch length? Again, check the manual for help.
Fifth, if everything so far was okay, have you put weights on the knitted fabric? Hook the claw weights in the edges and evenly across the middle of the fabric after you have knit a row or two.
Edited to add: Oops, forgot to tell you to take the carriage off the machine, turn it over, and make sure it is clean. There could be fluff or bits of yarn in there. The next to last page in the manual shows where to brush and where to put a thin film of lubrication. Spray such as Lori Lin that’s made specifically for knitting machines is good. Spray onto a soft cloth and use the cloth to lube the carriage (as well as the rail in the back that the carriage sits on). If you can’t find Lori Lin, BreakFree (used in cleaning guns) will work.
