Light Blue Leather
I looked at a used Lexus LS400 today, 1990 model, 175K. Lady says it needs a timing belt, whats it worth?
The motor is a V8, good looking car except driver seat is worn a bit and front bumper has a small crease in it. Silver blue metallic, light blue leather with wood trim interior, all power and all clean, except driver seat which shows minor wear and small cracks. They are asking $1000 as is, but i am a bit nervous since it dont run and drive. My mechanic estimates $5-600 to replace timing belt and water pump. If i buy it and fix it, can i make a few bucks selling it? Thanks!
The one thing that worries me is the fact of the car possibly having a close ratio engine. This is where there is no clearance between the pistons and valves unless in time. If this is the case then it might have smacked and bent the valves when the belt went. I have a feeling this may have happened since the owners haven’t fixed the problem. The only thing I would do is get a Chiltons manual or look it up and see. Honestly since the car don’t run, I would offer $500 for it and if they won’t take it, oh well.
