Three Recording Artists Who Reshaped Rock And Roll
Many artists of the 70s and early 80s attributed their influence to the British Invasion, which helped form what many have acknowledged as classic American Rock and Roll, filled with smooth guitar solos, high-energy drumming and inspiring lyrics. Since the British Invasion, other musicians have gone on to etch their names in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by producing different subgenres, including alternative rock, soft rock, hard rock and heavy metal. For most bands, three big music artists stand out as the root of inspiration: Elvis Presley, The Beatles and Metallica.
The Beatles
The Beatles managed to set in motion a rock and roll music fad with the teenage population, with their music becoming adored and sung by millions of people across Europe and the United States. Millions of fans sang their songs, and with their success, they became the voice of a generation, helping inspire poets, trigger revolutions, and change the mindsets of their listeners. Bob Dylan may have begun his music career around the same time as The Beatles, but the advocate of social change and peace still saw their music as inspirational, as did other bands such as the Beach Boys, who sang about the beauty of Southern California. Think about how Radiohead vinyl records would have sounded if The Beatles never were around; Radiohead, like many other rock and roll bands of today, were inspired by The Beatles.
Elvis Presley
He will live on forever as the King of Rock and Roll, and remains as one of the most commercially successful singers of all time, even in death. While he may be gone, The King continues to serve as a big commercial attraction and his records continue to do amazingly well, but it’s his estate that collects a sizable amount of profits for the owners. The King’s music changed rock and roll, steering it away from soft guitar solos and low-pitched voices and launching a high-energy, guitar-heavy sound that listeners adored. During his time, he epitomized cool; his hairstyle, voice and even walk all were copied by men and adored by millions of women.
Metallica
Rock became redefined once again in the 80s and 90s when Metallica moved from the traditional style of music and decided to use more electric guitar solos and edgier lyrics. While Metallica may have formed during the 80s and witnessed success during the 90s, 20 years later, the band is still a blockbuster success. Even Metallica vinyl manages to sell amazingly well because of the hits many of their LPs had. For rock bands formed in the 90s and 2000s, Metallica defined their era and inspired their lyrics, prompting many to write edgier music.
