Casio Protrek Triple
10BAR Water Resistant Watch?
I have a CASIO PROTREK Triple Sensor watch, it is mentioned on the back that its 10BAR Water Resistant, but I’m still afraid that water might affect the sensnors! Is it realy safe to swim with it?
10 bars is the pressure encountered at 90 m depth (about 290 ft), so you should be OK keeping it at the surface for swimming, sailing, surfing, etc. (but double-check your warranty, and I would advise you to try and avoid pushing any of the buttons while it is in the water).
However, 10 bars is an insuffiecient rating for underwater use (free-diving, or scuba diving). Watches should be rated to at least 20 bars / 20 ATM / 200 m (600 ft) to go diving, and preferably also specifically guaranteed for that purpose (which means that, as well as pressure tests, they’ve also passed e.g. corrosion resistance / long-term immersion tests).
