The Reason That Contract Furniture Is Becoming Popular In student Unions
Student union bars, often referred to as SU bars, have historically been fairly drab places. However, many universities have looked to upgrade their SU bars in recent years as the importance that potential students place on social life has hit home. As a result many universities have looked to invest in contract furniture.
Increase in budget
In an attempt to modernise their SU bars many universities have vastly increased their budgets. Some SU bars at the larger universities are now huge in comparison to their predecessors and are more akin to a nightclub rather than a pub as in the past. As such it is important for SU bars to buy furniture that really fits in with the overall decor and promotes a modern vibe.
A change of scene
It is probable that most will think of contract furniture being more suited to places such as care homes and hospitals. Yet the kind of items that are produced by contract furniture manufactures are suitable for use in pub and club environments. Universities with their eye on the ball have realised that this kind of furniture offers a great solution for providing quality and durable furniture.

As well as providing bar stools, contract furniture manufacturers also offer more comfortable sets such as armchairs and settees. As a result universities are able to buy furniture for the lounging areas and bar areas from the same provider, meaning a saving on cost.
The impact on student social life
On the whole, the improvement of SU bars and the role of contract furniture in it has meant a real change in the behaviour of students. Whereas in the past the SU bar would traditionally be used as a meeting point to have a few drinks before moving on, more and more students are now spending their whole evenings there.
