The Cartier Ballon Bleu Watch, Simple Yet Sophisticated
Considered as one of the bestselling watches in the world, Cartier timepieces are recognized for their classic elegance, sophistication, and exquisite designs. Unlike more complicated watches, a Cartier watch makes timekeeping as simple as it should be with its legibility and clean dial. Among its more famed models are the Tank, the Roadster, and the Ballon Bleu.
The Cartier Ballon Bleu is named after the sapphire cabochon crown enclosed within the round case of the watch. Due to its popularity, the Ballon Bleu comes in 19 different versions in three sizes made from either yellow gold, white gold, rose gold, and stainless steel. Underneath a sapphire crystal is a simple dial with blue hands and a subtle “C” motif made by Roman numeral hour markers. These are powered by an automatic Cartier caliber.
One of the more complicated models under the collection is the Ballon Bleu Chronograph (W6920010) in an extra large 18kt rose gold case of 47 mm with a matching 18kt rose gold bracelet. Unlike the essential-watch simpler models in the collection, it comes with a chronograph function apparent in the two subdials on its silver guilloche and lacquered dial. This specific model is powered by a workshop-crafted mechanical movement using the automatic winding caliber 8101 MC. The mechanism is showcased under a transparent caseback which is also water resistant up to 100 feet.
The Cartier Ballon Bleu extra large chronograph sports the elegance of early Cartier designs infused with an almost futuristic look with the sapphire cabochon crown protected along the curved part of the case. On both sides of the crown are the two buttons controlling its chronograph function. What sets it apart from other luxury timepieces is that it is elegant enough to be worn on formal occasions, yet simple enough to be appreciated by a meticulous sportsman. Moreover, the design is timeless that it will definitely still be considered a fashion statement for years to come.
